Crashes

Crashes fairly frequently. Magazine part doesnt save ones place. Lots of potential to be a good app

Version 1.1

For a non subscriber with an iPad a practical way to purchase an read on the way an issue. At my first try, the program crashed continuously. With assistance of The Atlantic team, the problem was easily solved. Good service!

dissapointing

As a long-time subscriber to the print edition I was hoping to be able to read The Atlantic on my iPad. I had expected some sort of a subscriber log-in. Nothing, unfortunately. Only a newsstand-like display of editions to purchase. But I dont want to pay again for something I already have a print version of. A little extra for the interactive, digital features - o.k. But not the full price.

Disappointing

The description says that subscribers to the print edition can access the magazine articles, yet there is no way to do this. There is no information on the website that describes how to do this either. And the "dancing nonsense" ads make it impossible to read the content. A total waste of time, so unlike the Atlantic.

Atlantic smoothness

Pretty much excellent

Crashes

What a bad programmed app!

Doesnt restore state

This app goes back to the home screen every time it is closed and reopened, making it about 8 clicks to find where you were in the magazine. Mindbogglingly unacceptable. I love the Atlantic, but does anyone over there use their app?

Lagging Magazine Content

I love the Atlantic. I like this apps integration of magazine content and fresher content. BUT - it is a major frustration to see articles posted on the web and announcements made when new issues are out and not see that issue available for the iPad for some time. Please Atlantic - look to your competitors like The New Yorker and get your iPad issue out more promptly. Consider Newsstand.

Never use it

Its too slow to load.

Not bad but...

The application crashes frequently but you can save articles to read them off line like later.

Crappy app

Crashes frequently.

disappointed

This great magazine deserves a great app. This is not it - at least not yet. Slow to load app, slow to load dominating intro advertisement and then crashes unexpectedly. Needs work.

Ad banner stupid

Get rid of it as it ruins the experience. Id even pay a buck for that to be gone. Toi bad.

Add a channel for favorite Atlantic writers

There are tons of great content on this app, but it is hard to navigate, and clumsy for finding ones way around. The most glaring omission is the apps failure to include a channel for favorite Atlantic writers. On the Atlantics website, its possible to easily find all recent articles by James Fallows or Alexis Madrigal, for example. But on the app its very hard to do. It would be so easy for the Atlantic to fix this but Ive been waiting for over year and they dont do it.

AVERAGE... Yet...

The Atlantic caught my attention by accessing it through FlipBoard, and there is no question about the quality of the papers that can be found in this magazine. The editorial content is great. To move one step ahead, before subscribing, I elected to install the app to review the internet content, at least, before taking the decision to subscribe. It is just a matter of accessing s similar content through another interface. My deception began here. The black layout is fine for me, but it is annoying, while reading the articles, to always have that huge menu bar at top of screen, either in portrait or in landscape mode. Also, when accessing some detailed content, again, the browsing window is so small, since the right column with its prominent place, occupy the screen. Then, you have the top bar, the right bar and no real place for the featured content. Ideally, there should be a button allowing to view an article in Safari. So, for the time being, I will continue to access your content through FlipBoard and will wait for an uplifted release. Spend a couple of hours, reading in the app, on the iPad screen, and you will get what was meant here. ADDENDUM April 21 Things worsen... Sections - by subject are not loading... When reading article, titles and icons on right are empty... Well, another reason to say no to that app, and now lower to one star... Deinstalled and reinstalled.. Not solved... CONCLUSION Bye bye the app, will continue to access content to FlipBoard. And bye bye digital subscription too! Definitive uninstall for me...

Why not in Newsstand?

I can live with the odd crash, but why is the app not in the newsstand? Very annoying.

An improvement

It looks like The Atlantic has really stepped up its game here. The consistent ad at the bottom of each page is annoying. Show the full-screen ad, and the lower-third ad as well, but them let us close it for the rest if the article. Its distracting while reading and it takes up screen real estate. There isnt a persistent floating ad on the website in Safari, and if I use a reading service like, Instapaper or Readability, the ads go away completely. Your own app should be a better experience for your content than these other places. Other than that, good work! It hasnt even crashed on me yet!

Room for Improvement

Obviously Im in it for the content, but the app itself is generally quite functional -- though there are a couple of annoyances. Namely, the category bar and the constant header. When browsing by category, often Entertainment does not work and instead lists the same stories as Politics. The header bar I can handle, but its a bit annoying that theres no back button if you click an image in an article. It crashes occasionally but nothing too terrible. Just needs a little tightening up.

Not quite there yet.

Content is sterling as always, but as a longtime print subscriber Im disappointed that subscription content is only available on the iPad and not on my iPhone. Ad positioning also seems scattershot.

No iPhone version available

I hold judgement until I see the iPhone version with offline content for subscribers.
