The Atlantic Magazine App Reviews

You wont get digital access

Why cant the Atlantic programers figure out a way to have the app remember login and password between issues. And, if that is beyond their skills, why cant they test their app see how poorly it presents the "sign in" pages. HORRIBLE!!!

Bring back the previous style

I used to like this app, but since the change to the current style, I go elsewhere. The picture thumbnails dont add anything. The magazine should be separated from the stories as was done previously

App Improvement Update?

The reviews of this app are as bad as any Ive seen. Has anything been done to correct the issues? Atlantic Monthly is not alone in the bad app department but I am hesitant to add another to my newsstand and, in particular, hesitant to pay to learn for myself. Features such as maintain state, sometimes referred to as multi-tasking, that allows one to save his place when leaving or closing the app, is fundamental to a good user experience.

No search function?

If there is one, I couldnt easily find it. Easier to do a google search in a web browser.

Horrible App

This is the worst magazine app anywhere. I am a years long subscriber in print and digital and I try to use digital when on the go. But the Atlantic app is so slow and jumpy reading anything is impossible. I suspect one reason is the constant loading and reloading of ads. The ratings here and my own complaints to the publisher are never acknowledged. The app is useless. Dont bother trying it.

LOUSY

The old version of this app was decent enough ... but the respin a few months ago STINKS -- crashes the iPad every couple of articles read, and takes 1-2 minutes to even advance pages. Dont bother with this app -- the print version is the only way to read the magazine.

Lacking basic stuff like full screen reading.

Makes me glad Im a print subscriber. For digital access, may as well use the website.

Great magazine, horrible app

App constantly crashes on me.

Best content, worst app

Total piece of crud. Dont download. You will waste hours of time fiddling with this buggy mess and lots of money buying issues and content you cant ever access. This app is disrespectful to all who have come to love the magazine. Time for a do-over.

Horrible

Glitchy, wont load, very frustrating - Im paying for this? No problem with ads but they freeze the app and are horrible flashing ads. Works ok on iPhone but awful for iPad Whoever built the app should be fired

Terrible

I purchased a digital and print subscription. Ive read The Atlantic for decades and I have regularly used iPhones and iPads since they were made so I use many apps. As pointed out in many reviews, this app is terrible. It is almost completely useless. It crashes constantly, is very poorly designed, and does not download. There is no point purchasing a digital subscription as I have. Just another breach of contract due to failure to deliver. I have changed the default auto-renew in settings to not auto-renew in order to mitigate my loss since I seriously doubt The Atlantic will rectify this, assuming they even pay attention to these reviews.

Worst app in America

It doesnt allow you to reset the password. They send you an email that says reset password and directs to a site that doesnt allow you to reset password. It asks you for your account email and then tells you that email is already in use. Unbelievable.

What a Shame!

I should have read the reviews before subscribing to the Atlantic online app. After multiple tries, I am unable to finish my first article - the app keeps freezing or wont allow me to scroll as I read. I would like to cancel my subscription.

Cant log in

Keeps redirecting me to "awaiting email verification" page even after Ive clicked the link in my email multiple times

Just keeps getting worse

Despite accepting login info the app keeps some articles locked. I encounter no such restrictions when accessing the current issue from a laptop web browser. Unfortunately iPad browsers cant access the current issue directly. What exactly is the supposed benefit of this worthless app?

Great magazine, lousy app

App keeps crashing or hanging. Always wants to charge me $6.95 to download an issue even though Im a print subscriber. But it does let me read the fabulous stories, including online-only content. Until it crashes.

Worst magazine app

How could it be worse! It makes it impossible to sign in, jumps around, wont stay where you want it. Love the magazine. Hate the app.

Really the absolute worst app I have ever used

Difficult to search. When reading an article and accidentally swipe left or right when scrolling, the screen shifts to the cover of the article and you have to scroll through it to get back to the place you were reading. And btw when you are trying to scroll quickly there is a good chance you will swipe left or right again and have to start over. This failing is in addition to the problem that one cannot save the place where they stopped reading and have to scroll through the article to find it. Dont accidentally swipe left or right! Ive been a subscriber for 15 years to the magazine. I travel a lot. It would be nice to be able to read my favorite mag without INCREDIBLE frustration. With all the intellect, couldnt you hire a few decent app developers!?!?!

Needs a lot of work

The app does not remember the last page viewed or have bookmarks. The app jumps to random locations in an article sometimes when you try to highlight text. Articles you mark as favorites have advertisements at the bottom of the page. This is my experience just in the last hour of downloading the app. I dont expect much. Recommendation: Fire your programmers and buy rock solid software that is tested thoroughly.

Unacceptably bug-ridden and not being fixed

The developers of this app show a continuing contempt for The Atlantics paying subscribers, refusing to fix this literally unusable collection of poorly designed features that are made so much worse by its outright bugs, no search function, repeating "Sign In" pop-ups that interrupt the reader, hangs, and crashes. Someone should be fired and replaced.
