The Atlantic Magazine App Reviews

Its the Atlantic.

Nuff said.

Not optimized...

...for the iPhone 5. Im sure its coming, but in the meantime, screen is small.

Save to pocket!

Being able to save to Pocket would be fantastic

Getting there

Needs iPhone 5 full-screen support. We have Facebook and Twitter integration, somewhat. It would be nice to also have Pocket and iMessages sharing.

Not happy

I downloaded the app, but now it refuses to recognize my digital subscription that I got through I-Tunes. I have tried repeatedly to update but have no idea how. And the app will not show me the current issue of Atlantic, which I want to read. Glenn Robinson

iPad version OK. iPhone version disappointing.

I finally subscribed to the digital version - I gave up on the real magazine subscription because about two issues per year werent even arriving (I live in East Asia), and held off on digital because the reviews here were so bad. And, well, its OK. The iPad seems to work fairly well, although Im often getting spinning wheels that necessitate closing the app and starting over. For my eyes, the standard font is fine, but for anyone much into middle age the pinch/zoom approach will be annoying - the text doesnt reformat, so youll have to move the screen back and forth. The app now does seem to remember where you were last reading - and indeed does so across issues too - which I gather is an improvement on earlier versions. What concerns me most is that a couple of times Ive needed to re-enter my password through the App Store to gain access, which is moderately annoying when I have an internet connection, but awful when I dont have internet access and cant get back into issues that had been on my iPad an a few hours earlier. (So much for the airplane reading!) And as for the iPhone: ugh. The magazine articles dont even appear?! Why on earth not? My iPhone is what I read standing up on the train during my commute, or what I read during an idle minute or two - I dont have the iPad with me at moments like that. Please make magazine articles also available on the iPhone: I find that a stunning oversight. Atlantic, it seems to be getting better, but you still need to raise your game. I love the content, but with an app that is now finally perhaps half as good as the Newsstand versions of the Economist and the New Yorker, youre sure making it more difficult than it should be to read that content.

New update crashes

The latest update works intermittently. Although very nice, it crashes almost immediately. Hopefully, theyll fix it soon. 5 stars for content. 1 star for reliability.

Great app!

Always a good article or two every day!

Good job Atlantic

Great! Well organized and intuitive

Great Emag

One of the very few news sites , not afraid to put their content out with no fees ,allows me to browse before I buy!

The crashiest app ever!

The content is fabulous, when the app stays open long enough to read it, which is seldom. On an iPhone 5 it rarely works, on my iPad 1 it has never worked. Completely unhelpful would be a generous description of their app support. The Atlantic is great, rarewire - the developer of the app - is terrible.

Buggy. Very buggy.

It is very nice to have access to the online stories and content of the Atlantic. That said, it is also very frustrating to have to deal with an app which seem to hang when switching between "Sections" on the site. Even more annoying is having the app crash when I try to read the current magazine. As a paying subscriber to the paper version, Ive enjoyed being able to read the magazine on the iPad. The latest update of the app seems unable to actually download and display the magazine without crashing. VERY frustrating...

Crashes all the time

The material in the Atlantic is terrific, but the app crashes whenever I try to read the current issue. This is a longstanding problem that has not been dealt with.

Crash bang all the time!

Darn it, this app crashes all the time. Also why cant it open in my newsstand with all my other magazines. The format looks good, in theory, unfortunately with the constant crashing, trying to read this mag online is a exercise in futility!

Crashes regularly

I love the Atlantic content, but this app crashes every time in use it. Unbearable!

Terrible website and acct verification issues

Pls see desperate email sent to you. Cheers, Jim

Truly worthless

This is the very definition of a worthless app. It won’t do anything unless I register, and it won’t accept my subscription details. The fields don’t allow for addresses.

No better than the website - subscription verification not working

I have a print subscription, but whenever I try to verify through the app to read the ipad version, the process hangs and goes nowhere. Might just as well just read the website and print version. Disappointing.

Cannot set type size

Perhaps the most basic feature in any reading app is the ability of the reader to set type size. How is it that this feature was missed? Also missing is a coherent and intuitive navigation. Is there a search feature? I hadnt noticed. It seems the creators wanted to duplicate a print experience. But why? It would have been better to create a great tablet experience.

Subscription

It is not possible to buy an in app subscription. Very frustrating.
