The Atlantic Magazine App Reviews

No access to subscription

Bought paper and digital subscription mainly for reading on iOS devices. Tried 5 different devices (iPhone 6s, iPad Pro, 2 different 4th gen iPad and iPad mini) to access digital magazine. Logged in fine but cant access content. What a shame and horrible excuse for an app. Look at New Yorker, ET, Time...they all work. How hard can it be!!

Was fun to read, update is a mess

I used to read the Atlantic app daily. With the new update, the stories that are new are buried and I cant find them without extensive search. I keep seeing the same headliner story for a full month. I get the magazine. Showing ALL the latest articles was the wisdom and beauty of the old Atlantic app. Scrolling in an article is buggy and it would be great to get back to where I left off when returning to the app. Change is not always good!

Fantastic journalism, terrible app

I just want to read the magazine from my phone--this app makes that very painful

Awful

Worst reading app ever. Shame on The Atlantic.

Why show ads when Im a subscriber??

If a non-subscriber downloads the app he/she can read the stories from the Home screen. When the story displays an ad bar is shown at teh bottom of the screen asking the reader to subscribe to the digital version of The Atlantic. I totally get that. What I dont get, is that the same ad is displayed to me as a subscriber who is logged in to the app . I dont want to see an add asking to subscribe - Ive done that already. It takes away precious screen real estate. It seems like a simple thing to do as a programmer: If user logged in then dont show ads. But apparently that didnt occur to them. Very annoying.

Terrible

This app may be a case study of bad UX. It’s literally unusable. Several clicks required to find the table of contents. Back issues can be found under the heading “In This Issue.” There’s no logical way to return to a previous, just-viewed screen. There are two different areas of “latest” stories with different content (as best I can tell). It’s like a website, but without a navigation to orient the reader … or like a magazine, but with no perceivable hierarchy or order … or something. I love reading the Atlantic, but it has become so confusing and frustrating, I can’t get myself to do it anymore. Please fire your UX team and start over.

Horrible

Cannot access Jan/Feb issue. Ive tried the uninstall/install several times.

Great writing, shameful app

Yikes. Barely useable. Give the writers a raise, fire committee in charge of this train wreck.

Should be removed from App Store doesnt work

You can access free web content but if you try to read a past or current issue the app freezes either says refreshing or just shows spinning wheel after full 10-minute test nothing worked, magazine is unreadable app is frozen - the Atlantic magazine content us generally very good, digital iteration used to work but had few digital perks - if they fix critical error would give it 3-stars. Dont subscribe or buy single issues neither Apple not The Atlantic will help or refund.

Nothing happens

Why isnt the Atlantic responding to these awful reviews?

Utterly Fails at its Most Basic Function

The purpose of a magazine is to be read by its subscribers/purchasers. You cannot read The Atlantic using this app. I cannot think of a more damning criticism. I have almost given up attempting to log in (why can’t you just use the code on my mailing label?), and previous issues downloaded disappear without notice or warning. Kind of like the birth of the iTunes store caught music execs by surprise, the publishers of The Atlantic must believe in their hearts that digital publishing is a “fad,” they must temporarily weather; not worthy of significant investment of resources. I will be sad to watch this venerated title descend into irrelevancy.

Terrible App for a Great Magazine

The app is terrible. Just today my comment regarding a political piece from Molly Ball also ended up with comments on an article explaining how thin people dont diet. This app stinks, which is a shame as "The Atlantic" is an excellent magazine. Fix it!!!!

Great magazine - TERRIBLE app

Reposting my review from a year or so ago. As another reviewer said, things seemed to have stabilized for a while, only to be back in the dumper with the most recent issue. Very disappointing. I have several digital magazine subscriptions, and by far the Atlantic is the worst. Crashes, cant authenticate, etc. I have had to reinstall several times to get any utility at all. Luckily, I have both print and digital subscriptions, or I would not be able to read the magazine at all. With the kind of reviews theyve been getting, it is more than a little surprising they have done nothing to improve the function. If the technical team working on this were reporting to me, they would all be fired by now.

Horrible app is now worse

1 star only because theres no way to give 0 stars. Im giving up. Even the writing can no longer make up for the app. I have a print subscription - but I only receive 1 out of 3 issues. It was a great magazine. But now, not even the deeply discounted renewal offers can make up for incompetence on all other fronts

Alright, could be better

This app includes pretty much all magazine content, with additional online blog posts. So its not just the magazine, and its not just the online blogs, but a combination. Aside from the fact that I had to delete and reinstall the app to get it working again, app works just fine. Uh and, it occasionally downloads "updates" to the app- I thought thats what the App Store is for.

App needs a lot of work

Fix it so I dont have to start the article from the beginning every time I leave the app.

Trashy left wing rag

....Garbage....plain and simple. Zero stars If I could.

The Atlantic app

This just might be the most annoying, difficult to use remake of a good app that Ive ever encountered. All I wanted to do was access a back issue that I paid for and that becomes a seemingly Herculean effort.

Horrible app masking great content

It is too difficult to navigate to current and past issues. Those need to be up front.

Buggy and S L O W

Just like what everyone else says, this is buggy and slow. I have to restart mine every time I want to scroll down a page. It can take several minutes to start and regularly freezes. Ive tried all of the fixes, none of them work.
